This class examines what is knowledge in science and how science has built its knowledge in terms of epistemology and history of science. By juxtaposing epistemology and history of science with those of Korean medicine, students can train their ability to contemplate the position of Korean medicine in the 21st century.
KMS0147 고의서독법 (Reading Skill of the classical medical book) 1-1-0동양고의서를 읽는 방법에 대해 체계적으로 학습하여 보다 깊이 있는 한의학을 접한다.
Reading the Asian ancient Since the ancient medical texts were written quite differently from the present, students need to be taught the methods of reading them. With this lecture, students will have more confidence and be familiar with ancient books.
KMS0150 근거중심한의학개론 (Introduction to Evidence-Based Korean Medicine) 1-1-0이 과목은 근거중심의학의 기본개념과 기술을 소개하고 한의학 진료에 이를 활용할 때의 이슈들을 다루는 과목으로 학생들에게 근거중심적 접근방법의 배경을 이해시키고 한의학 진료에 근거중심적 접근방법을 적용하는 데에 필요한 기본적 기술들을 습득하도록 하는 데에 주된 목표를 두고 있다. 따라서 전반부는 근거중심의학의 기본개념과 방법론에 대한 강의로 구성되며 후반부는 학생들이 직접 선택한 주제들에 대해 이를 해결하기 위한 방법을 모색하고 토의하는 과정을 통해 한의학 진료에서 근거중심의학 방법론을 활용할 때의 장점과 문제점을 경험하도록 한다. 아울러 이를 통해 한의학논문을 비평적으로 읽고 해석할 수 있는 능력을 배양할 수 있다.
This module will introduce the basic concepts and skills of evidence-based medicine (EBM), and related issues in evidence-based Korean Medicine practice. It aims to provide students with an understanding of the background to the evidence-based approach and will cover the basic skills necessary to apply the evidence-based approach in health care practice. First part of the course will be lectures on basic concepts and methodologies of EBM. A following part will require students to present their clinical problem and research plan to answer their question, through which they will experience pros and cons of applying an evidence-based approach in Korean Medicine practice. Additionally, they will be able to critically appraise research papers of Korean Medicine.

This course covers a dstailed analysis of the biochemical mechanisms that control the maintenance, expression, and evolution of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes. The topics covered in lectures and readings of relevant literature include DNA replication, genetic recombination, regulation of gene expression, and mRNA translation.

Knowledge of genetics and of the human genome is rapidly becoming an integral part of public health and the practice of medicine. This course covers the principles of genetics that apply to medicine, and provide an accurate exposition of the fundamental principles of human and medical genetics and genomics. Using illustrative examples the genes and mechanisms operating in human disease would be emphasized.
KMS5209 의학연구입문 (An introduction to medical research) 1-1-0본 과목은 현대 의학의 기초인 임상연구 전반에 대한 학부생 이해를 돕기 위해 개설하였다. 본 강의에서 다룰 주제는 임상연구의 역사, 연구유형 및 특성, 의학 및 한의학 저널 소개, SCI와 impact factor, Pubmed 등 의학 데이터베이스의 이용, 나에게 필요한 연구 논문과 저널을 찾는 법, 임상연구의 설계, 임상연구에서 다루는 기초적인 의학통계 등 현대의학연구의 생산과 소비 전반에 대하여 광범위하면서도 쉽게 다룬다. 매번 수업은 각 주제별 기본 개념에 대한 간략한 강의와 수강생의 참여형 토론 및 실습으로 구성된다. 연구 후반부에는 전체 학생들이 참여하여 모의 임상연구를 설계해 보고 참여하는 기회도 갖게 된다.
This course is planed to help undergraduate students to understand the basics of research methodology in clinical medicine. Topics covered in this lecture include history of clinical research, types and characteristics of clinical research, introduction of medical and Korean Medicine journals, use of medical databases such as Pubmed etc., concept of SCI and impact factor, how to find research articles and journals. This course deals with the production and consumption of modern medical research in a broad and easy way, including basic medical statistics covered in clinical research. Each lesson consists of a brief lecture on the basic concepts of each topic and practice session. In the second half of the study, all students will participate in designing and participating in a simulated clinical research.
